BC FNAR Awards 2022 Grant Recipient, Animal Alliance of Canada Fund

Animal Alliance Fund of Canada

The BC Foundation for Non-Animal Research is proud to announce our successful applicant for our 2022 funding grant.

We wish to congratulate the Animal Alliance of Canada Fund (AACF), a registered Canadian charity whose research will address Animal Use in Education and Training in Post-Secondary Education in Canada. The awarded funding totals $10,000 towards their project.

Applications were open to students and researchers across Canada developing alternatives to animal methods, as well as creative projects promoting a shift in thought on animal-use in our society.  Applications were received between Jan 1st, 2022 and April 1st, 2022.

Award recipient Liz White, said the following in response to be notified of AACF’s successful application:

“We have examined the use of animals in research for many years and have come to the conclusion that unless we go after the research funding we will not impact animal use. The Ontario legislation is designed to ensure that animals are treated in a humane manner in laboratories.  We know from these reports that the entire system is deficient and animals are often subjected to neglect and cruelty.”

Our goal is to work to get the funding bodies and the government to invest in the development of non-animal alternative approaches and require their use when researchers apply for funding.”

BC FNAR would like to thank all the applicants for this years award and wish them success in their ongoing research to decrease and eliminate the use of animal models in science.

Beyond the award to AACF, BC FNAR is also proud to have fulfilled its seed funding support for     UBC’s course on New Approach Methods in Biomedical Science, which has now been approved as a permanent course listing in the Faculty of Science, Department of Integrated Sciences, at UBC.

Sincerely,
BC FNAR Board and Trustees
